This issue of SciTech† is the third in a row focused on a theme: education in May, the 100th anniversary of the Scopes “Monkey” Trial in August, and now quantum physics. We hope readers like this thematic approach and welcome comments about it, as well as suggested topics for future issues. Looking ahead, these themes are planned for upcoming issues: Science, Technology, and the PC(USA); The Environment; Health and Medicine; Neuroscience; Water.

Although this November 2025 issue of SciTech† is being mailed in early 2026, we retained information about the status of contributors as they were at the end of 2025: Arnold Rots, President; Mark Douglas, Vice President; and Kerra Becker English, class of 2025.

Quantum Physics

Quantum physics is also often referred to as quantum mechanics. Although there are minor differences in meaning between the two, for the purpose of this issue of SciTech† the terms may be considered interchangeable. As noted on the U.S. Department of Energy’s “DOE Explains … Quantum Mechanics” webpage: “Quantum mechanics is the field of physics that explains how extremely small objects simultaneously have the characteristics of both particles (tiny pieces of matter) and waves (a disturbance or variation that transfers energy).” (www.energy.gov/science/doe-explainsquantum-mechanics).
